(The Valley, Anguilla: RAPF Release) – Garvin Scott Hapgood, a 44yr old man, was arrested and charged for the offence of manslaughter. Mr. Hapgood appeared before the magistrate court today, Wednesday April 17th, 2019, where an application was made for bail on his behalf. Upon hearing the application, bail was denied and Mr. Hapgood was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison to return to court on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019.

- EARLIER REPORT: RAPF Investigates Homicide Incident
At 16:05 on 13th April, the Royal Anguilla Police Force (RAPF) responded to a report of an incident at West End. The incident resulted in the death of one resident of Anguilla. The RAPF are carrying out a thorough investigation into this matter. A family liaison officer has been assigned to the family of the deceased. A pathologist will arrive in Anguilla on 15th April 2019 and will carry out an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Both the Acting Governor and the RAPF would like to express their sincere condolences to family and friends of the deceased and all those who are affected by this incident. A further statement will be issued by the RAPF in due course.
The RAPF would like to remind the public that:
a) The defendant is entitled to a fair trial;
b) There is a presumption of innocence until proven guilty;
c) Nothing would be stated or published which would prejudice a fair trial taking place; and
d) Section 115(g) of the Criminal Code applies and which provides for an offence in respect of any person who, while a judicial proceeding is pending, makes use of any speech or writing misrepresenting such proceeding or capable of prejudicing any person in favor of or against any parties to such proceeding, or calculated to lower the authority of any person before whom the proceeding is to be held.
