The Royal Anguilla Police Force (RAPF) hereby release statistics comparing the third quarter figures of 2019 with the same period in 2018. Overall the amount of actual crime reported has reduced by 32% (down from 635 to 476 crimes in the period). While those brought to justice have increased by l6%. During the third quarter there has been a significant reduction in crime. This is due to ongoing proactive and intelligence led policing which led to a fall in acquisitive crimes
Acquisitive crimes have seen a reduction in reported crimes by 31% for the same period 2018 (down from 194 to 134 crimes in that period).
Burglary remains a high priority crime with only one less than the same period in 2018. However, the detection rate in burglary has increased by 4% bringing it to 21% which is below the targeted rate of 27%.
Figures for serious crime show that there was an increase in serious crimes reported over the period. However the detection rate has increased by 10% bringing it to 88%. There was a notable reduction in robberies by 38% compared to the same period in 2018 (down from 13 robberies to 8 robberies in 2019). The RAPF continues to make gun crimes a priority and as such has had several successes in seizures of firarms and ammunition over the period. The reporting of sexual offences continues to rise (up from ll crimes to 19 crimes for the same period in 2018) which is noteworthy and demonstrates a greater inclination of victims to report such offences.
In an effort to keep crime low and the people of Anguilla safe, the Major Crime Unit embarked in a number of raids. Several warrants were executed and as a result five (5) hand guns and 23 rounds of ammunitions were recovered. A total of four (4) persons were charged for these offences.
These figures, however, will be reflected in the last quarter of data to be produced by the Corporate Development Department.
The Royal Anguilla Police Force remains committed in protecting the community of Anguilla and will continue to perform their duties at the highest of standards.

Monitoring of Crime performance and having a very strong crime recording regime played a major role in the success achieved by the RAPF in the third quarter.
