(The Valley, Anguilla) – The Caribbean region including Anguilla as part of the sub region, Latin America and the Caribbean, for the third time around is participating in the International Comparison Programme (ICP) 2020; a worldwide statistical initiative led by the World Bank under the auspices of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC), with the main objective of providing comparable price and volume measures of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and its expenditure aggregates among countries within and across regions. The ICP collects and compares price data and GDP expenditure to estimate and publish purchasing power parities (PPPs) of the world’s economies.

The ICP includes a series of statistical surveys to collect price data for a sample of commonly purchased goods and services. All countries participating in the ICP are using a comparable consumer basket to estimate the relevant Purchasing Power Parities (PPPs), which in basic terms asks, how much money would be needed to purchase the same goods and services within different countries.

The Anguilla Statistics Department is requesting the cooperation of all businesses included in this initiative, should your establishment be selected to provide one or more of the prices for goods and/or services for price collection in this

program. Price quotations for the items in the comparable consumer basket are being collected by field staff on behalf of the Anguilla Statistics Department for one (1) year either through a field visit or via telephone on a quarterly basis held within the months of February 2020, May 2020, August 2020 and November 2020. Price collectors should at all times be wearing their identification cards in clear view.

By participating in the ICP 2020 round, Anguilla will benefit from the enhanced statistical capacity building activities related to the generation of ICP basic data with a specific focus on price statistics. In addition, comparable data as it relates to the cost of living would be available for Anguilla. To be integrated in the ICP 2020 round, will also streamline poverty measurement, improving comparison in prices between countries in our region and also different regions, strengthening statistical capabilities and many other fringe benefits that PPPs would play in key roles in the analysiscarried out by policymakers, multilateral institutions and the private sector among others.
