Anguilla with the rest of the OECS countries will be conducting the 2000 round of Population and Housing Censuses. It is required by law, to conduct a Population and Housing Census every ten (10) years. Anguilla’s last census was conducted in May 2011 and therefore was due to conduct its seventh (7th) census in May 2021, having previously conducted censuses in 1960, 1974, 1984, 1992, 2001 and 2011 but due to circumstances beyond the control of the ASD it had to be postponed. Census Day in Anguilla is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

A census is the process used to acquire information about every member of a given population. This term is mostly used in connection with national ‘population and door to door censuses’ (to be taken every 10 years according to United Nations recommendations). Most Caribbean countries conduct censuses every 10 years.

The Anguilla Statistics Department is now accepting applications for the posts of Enumerators and Supervisors for the Anguilla Population and Housing (AP&H) Census 2022. A total of at least eighty (80) persons are required for the exercise. All interested persons must apply in writing, by completing an application form, which will be made available and can be collected at the Anguilla Statistics Department.

Candidates will be contacted closer to the interview period. Following the interview stage candidates will be required to participate and complete training during the week of Wednesday, February 9th to Tuesday, 15th 2022. It is mandatory that candidates attend every day of training and participating in all aspects of the training; this is one of the requirements for selection.

Every enumerator and supervisor shall, on the acceptance of his/her appointment and also on the completion of his/her training, make in the presence of a Justice of the Peace/Commissioner of Oaths a written declaration and Oath of Secrecy.

All enumerators will be assigned to Enumeration District. They must be available for work every day from May 2, 2022 to June 30, 2022 as all work must be quickly, accurately and efficiently completed during this time frame. High standards of literacy, technological competence, maturity, people skills, patience and tact are required. Since most of the work will be done on foot, candidates must be physically fit and in good health. A valid driver’s license and use of a motor vehicle is strongly recommended.
